Ensbury Park and Wallisdown Area Forum

Forum for Wallisdown and Winton West Ward

Minutes of the Annual General Meeting held on the 23rd January 2010

Diana Bagnato welcomed Councillor Rod Cooper, P.C. Mark Farrow and Chief Officer Dave Arundel of the Ensbury Park Fire Station

The longstanding Community Beat Officer P.C. Keith Cutler retired in the latter part of 2009 and has been replaced by P.C. Mark Farrow who told us that there has been an increase in burglaries in the local area and everyone should be vigilant, ensuring that windows and doors are locked and that care be taken when answering the door to strangers. They are dealing with speeding in the whole area. There is also a problem with anti social behaviour in Acres Road that is under investigation.

He was asked about the availability of Police Officers to answer calls from the public and he said that he has two PCSOs to assist him namely Steph Holmes and Liz Hilling. The Team mobile number is 07917 556944. You may not always get a reply as they could be dealing with an incident or off duty but if you leave a message they will get back to you. The e-mail address is n&w.snt@dorset.pnn.police.uk

The following items were also discussed with Mark:-

Roger West, Councillor for Redhill, advised us that he has been on a working party looking into flooding of the Borough’s Roads. A report will be available but if anyone has a problem with flooding in their road, please let a committee member of the Forum know and it will be passed on to Councillor West.

He also intimated that planning permission would probably not be given for building on the Unity Hall site as it could cause flooding due to natural springs in the area.

He gave of list of activities that are taking place in the Ensbury Park Library, these are already listed on the Forum’s website, www.wwwareaforum.info. Councillor West pointed out that we must be aware that with the new Library nearly completed in Kinson the Council could be looking to save money and try to close Ensbury Park Library as it is the smallest in the Borough. This was discussed a few years ago but we obtained signed petitions to show how important this Library is to the area.

Dave Arundel gave a very interesting insight into the history of the Fire Service together with charts showing the number of fires dealt with and resulting tragedies. They offer a fantastic service whereby a Fire Officer will arrange to call, carry out a safety check and install fire alarms, free of charge, the batteries in the alarms last for 10 years.

John Hayter a Governor of Glenmoor School told us about the new sixth form which will be established for the use of the Girls School and Winton Arts and Media College (Winton Boys).

As it was the Annual General Meeting (AGM) residents were asked to volunteer to serve on the Forum Committee. Two residents decided to join us. A Committee meeting is being arranged shortly and as soon as the Officers have been voted in a list of the Committee will be posted on the website.

Questions were invited from the floor.

Parking around the Schools was raised again and P.C. Farrow stated this was still under review.

A complaint about rubbish around the Priestley and Columbia Roads area is going to be dealt with by Councillor Cooper and the relevant department at the Town Hall.

A discussion took place with Councillor Cooper regarding the Council spending in the region of £14m to purchase the Roko Centre and the Imax. Ex-Councillor Jill Abbot gave information regarding the history of the Imax and Bournemoth International Centre (BIC).

The meeting was brought to a close at 12.00 noon.

Details of the next meeting to be notified.
